Days On Earth
Days On Earth is a brand new project for jazz sextet and A 30-piece orchestra. I started writing the six movements of the piece in 2016 and soon after workshopping with students from Trinity Laban Conservatoire Of Music And Dance performed early versions of parts of the work at The Southbank's Clore Ballroom and Blackheath Concert Halls. Days On Earth FEATURES some of my favourite UK jazz musicians who I've worked a lot over the years including Seb Rochford (drums) Liam Noble (piano) Tom Herbert (bass) Roland Sutherland (flutes) and John Parricelli (guitar) but also featuring new ACQUAINTANCES Jackie Shave (violin) and the young outstanding alto sax player Alice Leggett. the clip below is from a performance in the foyer at the London Jazz Festival in 2016. Since then I've rewritten much of the work and recorded the whole piece ( at Mark Knopfler's famous British Grove studio) with a specially assembled orchestra. I've just finished mixing and mastering and the the music will be released on the Edition Label on January 18th 2019. A special CD launch performance will take place at Milton Court ( Barbican) on Wednesday 9th January 2019.
"Lockheart’s eclectic tastes are all here, from cutting edge improvising to Bollywood strings, African Kora harp melodies and 70’s funk. Structured rather like a ‘grand suite’ the six movements are inspired by human traits and tendencies - a subtle comment on the state of our world and humanity"
